What we do
Our goal is to provide emotional support and first hand information to families living with neurobehavioral diagnoses. We hope to be a refuge during crisis and a lighthouse during times of hard decisions.
Emotional Support
We actively listen to you concerns, fears, hopes and dreams and we do so with the utmost respect and compassion. We believe that there is a special type of healing that can take place when we hear the stories of other parents who have lived through similar situations. The validation and normalization of feelings, thoughts and situations that nobody else could provide you before is finally here. While we are not certified counselors, our understanding comes from having lived similar situations or the fact that we might face them in our future.
Safe Place
Rest assured that nothing that you say will make us think that you failed as a parent or that your situation is too crazy, sad, dangerous or impossible to be real. There are no judgments here and anything you share will always remain confidential. Here you can truly say how you are feeling or what you are thinking. No need to hold it together so people don’t get upset, scared, down or desperate.
Connectivity
We connect parents who are interested in the same topics or who are experiencing the same type of challenges. We do this by keeping a database of each member with their location and any other information that they are willing to share. We foster direct and active contact via phone, email or texts to create an ongoing sense of support and understanding among our participants. It worth mentioning that we always check first with a member prior to making a connection to ensure he/she is in a good place to provide such support.
Share Knowledge
We share the knowledge we learned while navigating the mental health systems, special education, disability rights, and residential placement. We hope this helps you ask informed questions and be better prepared during transitions. By no means do we have all the answers but hopefully we can point you in the right direction, or at least know that we’ll have your back while you figure them out. You finally found your tribe!
Resources
We have compiled a list of parental blogs and autism websites that we found very helpful for emotional validation, legal advice and practical day-to-day tips.
